My shower wall surround is coming away from the wall. I am afraid of moisture damage behind it. I got an estimate from a Bath Fitters type company and it was $1100. Is it worth it or should we install a new surround ourselves?

hking44,
I wouldn't pay that kind of money! If you able and willing, it will require some work and some tools which you may have or could rent. You will have to replace the substrate (drywall) and replace it with cement board then decide as to what you are wanting to replace the surround with. Many products available and if installed properly will be trouble free. Fiberglass, Cultured Marble, etc. Check Home Depot or Lowes for ideas.
Good Luck!
