I hope this is a general enough guestion to not need a model number. Five hp Briggs push mower. Runs fine, but seems to have slight knocking when in heavier grass. I'm not talking about bush-hogging, just high grass. Like it gets a knock when a heavy work load is placed on it. Any comments?

Thanks.

Boman:
Have you checked the blade. If a blade becomes loose it will sound like a engine knock. There can also be a carbon build up on the piston that will give you a knock. Then the obvious is check the oil.

And don't forget to check engine mounting bolts

And if the previous suggestions don't lead you to the problem, if this is a newer engine (quantum)...well, that's pretty common. I see a lot of these things with a rod knock, but they run surprisingly long like that.
