I have a Poulan Pro heavy duty trimmer 131 31cc. The pullcord has broken off of the spool. The straight shaft has been removed and the engine has been loosened from the plastic housing. I have been unable to remove the large metal piece that the shaft slides into so I can pull the housing off to get to the spool. Any help is appreciated.

Hello Danny!

The piece screws off, possibly with left handed threads, depending on the direction of rotation of the engine. It may also have a small screw down in the center of the hole that the flex cable slides up into. Remove that screw if equipped, and if your engine rotates counter-clockwise, (when viewed from the end of the trimmer as if you were using it), the clutch will have left handed threads. Sometimes a light strike with a hammer on the clutch in the direction required to loosen it will get it loose.
