I have a Yahmaha XS850 tripple and the center cylnder fouls the plug. I got it out last summer and had the carb rebuilt and sent it back and the carb is fine. The guy who worked on it said that the valves were good. I have had this problem even before i had it put away. It all started when i had a shop get it running one year. Its fine if you always have the bike tunrning high rpms but if you come off the throttle or let it idle it will foul the center plug after a little while. A little black smoke puffs from the pipe that the center cylnder goes in to when you give it some gas. Me nor my mechanic can figure out the problem. Thanks a lot

Hey, I had a 80 xs850sg (the "midnight special") last year for a while, great bike! Long story on that one. I keep looking for another cheap one to drop in my lap.
Anyway, there is a triples mailing list, and those guys are great.
Here's the website you NEED to visit.

The local yamaha shop won't even work on bikes over 20 years old, gotta do it all yourself.
