What is the best way to cut suspended ceiling tile around recessed lighting cans? Is there a tool other than a rotozip type tool that will make just as precise a cut, for less money, or is it a wise investment, as far as ease of use and time cosumption? Who knows i may find other uses fr one, but dont want to buy one if its not necessary.
Thanks

For alot less $$ you can get a plain old manual circle cutter. You'll find it with the drywall tools at the big box. It'll work good for drop lid tiles, just make sure that the point is held firmly in place when making your circles. You can also use a regular compass like they use in drafting and a keyhole saw.

With either of these methods I suggest flipping your tile over and cuting it from the back side, as normally it's a smoother surface to work on. Either way make sure to measure carefully for your center point of the light and don't forget when you flip it over to take into account you're workin from the back side.

Hope that helps out. BTW, I never use a roto-zip for drop lid tiles, too easy to mess 'em up. ;)
