We are remodeling a half bath that has a ceramic tile floor. The ceramic tile is 1" - 2" squares and rectangles in a pattern that repeats in 6" squares. The floor is about 5' x 6'.
If possible we would like to lay the marble tiles over the ceramic. We don't want to remove it because removing the tiles from the walls was impossible, and we ended up tearing down the walls and re-hanging dry-wall. The tile was laid 40 years ago and the mastic is a bear!
The ceramic floor is in great condition, no cracks.
Can we lay the marble over the tile? Should we use ceramic backer board (wonderboard)?
Thanks!

YES- Lay directly over the tile, make sure it is clean.-- NO backer board. Use latex modified thinset mortar and please be carefull when wet.
Use a throw rug or towell when getting out of the shower or tub.
What color is the marble ? certain colors require epoxy adhesives.

The marble is white. Do we need an epoxy adhesive?
It is a vanity, with no tub or shower so we don't expect a wet floor.
Thanks again!
