I want to lay ceramic tile on a concrete floor that has linoleum on now. I'm wandering how clean the surface has to be before I start laying tile (flooring & glue).
Also there is a drain in the floor and the floor drops down to the drain quit a bit. In a 4 foot circle it drops about 1 inch. Should I fill that up with concrete and extent the drian? I'm planning to use 12x12 tiles. Not purchased yet so could use smaller ones.

you are planning on removing the vinyl> ??if so the floor needs to be clean with as much of the adhesive scraped up as posible. 1" in 4' should be ok (1/4" per ft.)

Need more information ! This sounds like a commercial kitchen floor. Is it sheet vinyl or tiles ?
Concrete will be contaminated with the glue if you remove the vinyl.---- lots to consider here--- tell us more.
12 x 12 will require splitting the tiles into smaller pieces to go around the drain area but the rest of the floor could be 12 x 12

It is sheet linoleum in bad shape with holes in it and it is loose around the drain area so I'm thinking it will have to come out. What is the best proceedure.
