I have stained birch cabinets which were coated with polyurethane. They are yellowed and I would like to strip them down and possibly re-stain them a different color or paint them. I can take the doors down but will have to do the framework installed. I would like your ideas on strippers, stain and finishes. I was told that laquer doesn't yellow?

tcbray,

You will have to test a couple different strippers to determine which one is best for your job.
Laquer is very difficult to brush on. After you've stripped, sanded and stained, test an area with water base polyurethane.
Waterbase poly will not yellow either, and the fumes are not near as bad as oil poly.
