We are trying to attach a string of rope lights under a granite counter top. We've tried glue but of course the glue melts and the light fall when warm. Any ideas on how to attach these lights to granite?

Margot, Hopefully I can help. First off let me say that my suggesstions are designed for the ease of removal since rope lights do not always last a real long time. If you are installing them under the upper cabinets use a plastic pipe anchor. They are found in the electrical dept. in small blister packs and come various sizes. Keeping in mind that the bottom of the cabinet is thin, use approx a 3/8 in screw to anchor the plastic pipe anchor, with the rope though it, to the bottom of the cabinet.
If you are trying to attach it to the front edge (under the front lip over hang) you can use the same anchor and either wedge or slide the edge of the anchor in between the granit top and the cabinet, possibly using a litlle hot glue to hold it in place. If this confuses you once you see the anchors you will understand.

O.K. Now I need to explain more about the underside of this granite. We had a 1/2" deep and 1/2" wide groove cut out of the underside of the granite countertop (snackbar). In the groove, we installed reflective tape. Then we used hot glue to fasten the rope light strip into the groove. However . . . when the glue gets warm from the lights, the strip of lights falls down. Can you still help?

could you epoxy a clip to the grove so that the lights can be changed as needed and the heat wont hurt the epoxy.

That's an option. Are you thinking I need to remove the reflective tape then just epoxy the clips direct to the granite?

Hi
There are high heat glue sticks..but you need a high heat gun to melt them....maybe the heavy duty sticks that you can get for a standard glue gun would work. If you are using the clear sticks, they melt at a lower temperature. The off yellow sticks are the heavy duty sticks.

I would agree with my original response of the hot glue (high heat is the only one reliable enough to use). Try a different strap anchor though, a U shaped plastic strap anchor with little tabs would be the way to go. I think the epoxy would be to permanant. Use small strips of duct tape to hold it in place till the hot glue drys.
