I want to paint my bathroom. The wall had peeling paint on one wall and part of ceiling. I have scraped it, then painted it with Harvest brand white primer & wall size. I was going to paper over it, but would rather paint. The wall has one paint layer thick "openings" in the rough places. I have heard that painting with a 3/4" nap roller, using latex paint, would fill the gap. Is this true? I prefer not to use texture paint, but will if someone thinks it is best.

"Paint changes the color of the surface, it does not change the surface." ... an old painter I knew.

Defects in the surface should be repaired on their own. You may be able to fill the cracks with primer and sand it down smooth, then paint. You could skim some joint compound over the wall and fix the surface. I would try to learn why the surface is cracked, to prevent it happening again.

On the other hand, a couple of coats of paint may fill them sufficiently for your purposes. A 3/4" nap roller will impart its own texture without having to use a texture paint.

Have you resolved the moisture problem that was causing the previous paint to peel? Good exhaust fan in bath?

I like the answer. I bought the house two years ago, and the walls were in this condition. One wall (the undamaged one) is an outside wall. The house is in FL and is block construction. I think the peeling/cracking was due to showers with the door closed for prolonged periods. There is a window, but no ceiling fan.

I will give it a good coat of primer, then a coat of latex paint with the 3/4" nap roller.
