Need some help....what is the best way to repaint wood trim and baseboards in my home. I plan to use oil-based enamel and want the finish to be smooth like it was spray painted. Is there a special brush to use?

Thank you in advance.

Maybe a foam brush.

Nevertheless, I have never seen a brushed or rolled finish as smooth as a sprayed finish.

With good paint and a top quality brush, you should get a good, smooth finish with alkyd paint. It flows out so nicely.

Foam brushes fall apart so quickly.

Get yourself a good Purdy China Bristle brush. As I said, brushing is not spraying, but you can lay it on so nicely. I prefer to paint interior trim by hand because I enjoy it so much. I have a sprayer, so I could spray just as easily.

Good luck.

Thanks for your suggestion....will that type of brush work on painting bathroom cabinets too?

That brush will be good for all of your trim/wood parts using oil-based paints.

I firmly agree with the suggestion to use a high quality paintbrush. I have two paintbrushes I have been using for over three years now and they still put on a beautiful coat of paint. (I don't let anyone else use them either.) Of course, proper use and cleaning is necessary to make it worth spending the extra money in the long run, which is why I don't let anyone else use mine!
