Hi all,
My Day&Night forced air heater kicks on (blower starts after turning on at thermostat) but never lights up. Problem started a few weeks ago. The unit is maybe 8 yrs old.
I remove the furnace cover (top part) then had my wife turn it on via the thermostat. Here's what is happening.
1) the blower starts up.
2) I hear a click and gas flow starts (I can smell it) for a few seconds then stops.
3) the igniter never seems to kick on. It does not glow hot and is cool to the touch after everything shuts down.
I thinking it is defective. It is connected via a wire w/a plug in connector at the wire's end and is mounted near the manifold with one screw. Since I very mechanically incline and have experience as a repair tech in various capacities with a major phone company, this seems like an ez item to change out.
I'm just not sure if the igniter is actually bad. Can I just measure for voltage where the wire end of the igniter plugs into it's connection?
Thanks to all for your help.

see if voltage is present at plug, probably so and a bad ignitor. those things are touchy, and respond unfavorably to skin oils, try not to touch the new one.

Thanks! I'll give that a try. One more question though.
What voltage range and type (ac or dc) will I be working with when I test. Heater runs on 110vac.
Thanks again.

110 vac to ignitor. Since you do have a meter you can check the ignitor for resistance(ohms) also to see if it is bad.

Got it.
Once again - thanks.

If you have power there and it ain't glowing it's the ignitor....no need to test anything!
