We built our deck four years ago, using pressure-treated lumber. We did not seal it -- I know, I know -- and now we are getting splinters and the boards are slightly cupped. I've read you shouldn't sand pressure-treated wood -- so how can we make the deck safe for bare feet so we can seal it?

You can sand pressure treated wood. It is done everyday. You have to be careful of the nails or screws holding the deck boards down. Make sure they are down. Sand and seal.

As Jack said, you can sand (or saw or anything else to p-t wood) just like most any other wood. The only difference is that most p-t wood is treated with chromated copper arsenate (a green-colored chemical called CCA). You should not breath in the sanding dust, just as you should not inhale smoke from burning p-t wood, because CCA is TOXIC. Don't let your dog chew it either. Wear a dust mask (and, always, eye protection). Good Luck!
