I am building a 2 level design with the 2nd level using shared beam/post technique. Is it better to #1 have the top level sit joist on joist with the bottom framing and miter every diagonal 1st level deck board to meet the 2nd level rim joist, or #2 to deck the 1st level and then set the 2nd level on top of the deck
boards, that run wild a few inches under the 2nd level.I will step up one level with a 2x8. The real question is finish the 1st level and frame the second on top so the 1st level deck boards are trapped under, or fit each deck board to the face of the 2nd level header board and provide blocking to screw each board to.
