Upholstery and Fabrics - reupholster sofa

I just bought a 100" sectional (2 sections) 50s style sofa. I would like some idea of a range of what I should expect to pay to have it reupholstered and how do I pick the right company/person to do it?

The cost of reupholstering a sofa can be close to that of a new one. Fabric, the style, and fiber content come into play. Check your yellow pages and ask your friends for references. Take a picture of the sofa and visit some upholstery shops where they will have fabric samples. Get references and call and go see some of their work. Again, you may find it less expensive to purchase a new sofa.

If it a quality built sofa and is very comfortable and sits well in your home, then reupholstering may be a consideration.
Put your hand under the sofa to check for the springing. If it has 8-way hand tied, web and coil construction you will feel the webbing under the muslin covering and the coils sitting on top. If you discover only muslin and air, you can typically replace with a comparable quality sofa for less than the cost to reupholster. If you have an 8-way hand tied web and coil construction and you love the sofa reupholstering may cost you less than replacement.
