I am planning to build a set of stairs with a large landing over an existing cement patio. I read one other posted message and reply that recommended cement piers as a base on concrete, but it was for a mobile home. I can build permanently; is this still the best way to go? Also, should the piers be attached to the cement patio in any way?

If you are terminating on a slab, you do not need the piers.
