Hi, let me qualify myself on this job, I'm not qualified! I'm a woodworker but not a flooring man. I am helping my son do a little renovation job in his home. I have removed a bathroom and a foyer to build him an office. The adjoining rooms have hardwood flooring and they will continue through the office area. Since there is a 4' cased opening, the floor will have to be an extension of the existing ones. Obviously I don't want all the joints to be in a line, so I have to remove some pieces of the existing floor to "tooth" the new pieces in. My question, how is the best way to remove the old flooring without breaking the tongue or the groove? Do I have to saw into the boards and take the pieces out in halves? Please help.

Thank you
Buck

yes ,you'll have to saw cut down the center of the board to be removed then chisel away until you can get a pry bar in there to do the rest.Of course you know to be careful not to damage the boards to remain. When you get the desired boards out strike a line on the floor and put you some nailers along that line to hold you straight fill in the side of the room on the groove side then remove the nailers and using a peice of slip tongue turn and fill in the remainder of the floor:cool:
