Help-I need help decorating a mauve fixtured bathroom with wall color and fabric that will downplay the mauve tile and fixtures. Don't have the funds right now to replace the dated fixtures...thanks

Using paint and fabrics similar to the mauve color will tend to downplay the mauve color sticking out like a sore thumb. Then, your accent colors can be added, such as your navy, green, gold, or whatever other colors you want to pull into the room from your colors used elsewhere in your home. This sounds like a fun decorating challenge.

I recently redecorated a friend's bathroom....with all green fixtures. Don't fight what you have, work with it instead. We painted the ceiling white, and the walls a beautiful color of tan. We painted the vanity white, put in new light fixtures and mirror over the vanity. We bought a shower curtain with small palm trees (green blended well with fixtures), and we matched the 'trunk' of the palm trees to the wall paint. We added one big bath mat in color of walls. (small bath, no window). We hung another mirror on opposite wall with 'monkey' on border, and bought green hand towels with trim in brown/monkeys and palm trees. Instead of regular towel bar, we purchased inexpensive "plate" display holder (old brass) which we hung over the toilet next to the lavatory, and hung towels. We replaced vanity pulls with old brass ones we picked up at flea market. Walla.....compliments galore. And you would think the bathroom fixtures were planned that way. Some things you can't change, but play up to it, not against it. Good luck, Noni

Noni, the bathroom project sounds beautiful. Working with what you have and not fighting it can produce some great results. It is also very rewarding, especially when you can't afford to replace the fixtures.
