There are some new composite deck materials to use in place of regular wood. What is your experience with these materials, pros and cons.

It costs a litle more initially than cedar or redwood, but other than that there are no real cons. You don't have to treat it or stain it, and there is virtually no maintenance. The list of "pros" is long -- most is made of recycled and what would otherwise be waste material; it won't split or rot; Nobody will get a sliver fom it; ...

About the only downfall is that it gets slippery when wet.

I heard someone say that they fuzz up at butt joints which have been cut to fit.

Jack is right about the composites being slippery when wet, but then so is wood, especially if it has been stained or painted. MTAC mentioned the "fuzzy" ends, but I have found that, just like wood, if you cut from the back side with a Skil saw and have a sharp blade, that usually isn't too much of a problem.
