i am building a 16 X 40 free standing deck and can't find any help on how far my concrete piers should be spaced? Help?

If your locality has building code enforcement, they will tell you when you submit your plan. If you do not live in an inspection area, I usually place my posts/piers at no more than 10' apart, but it depends on the material you are using. 2x12 spans much farther than 2x8.

My company build alot of decks. I have found that I have less problems when I put the pier spacing every 4 or 5 feet. The customers like it also. It keeps the deck very sturdy and tight for years to come.
