I am laying a hardwood floor. Floating - glued tongue and groove. Here is my question. What looks best when going through a door way where the flooring transitions to carpet. 1) would you flush cut the door jamb all the way through? 2) Or Cut part way so only the part the wood floor sits under is flush cut with the peice the carpet sits next to left intact?

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks,
abkent

My two cents...

Cut the jamb only up to the carpet and stop. The threshold or transition will cover the stop point.

Cutting all the way will entail pulling up the carpet, and wont acheive anything.

Rent a jamb cutter to make quick work of it and get a straight cut.

You can buy a hand saw for cutting the bottom of door jams at home depot. Just ask a flooring associate where they are located. You could make this "1/2 jam cut" by hand. Use a dremel or drill bit - skill saw - wood chisel to cut in the middle.
