I'm renovating three 450 sq ft 1920 beach bungalows in Venice (CA). I want to lay a laminate over the existing oak floor, the origianl floor is to damaged to repair and is nailed to the joists with no sub-floor.
I found a German laminate, Lamton, at a good price. It's a high-end, AC3 rated, HDF laminate with a tongue-and-groove lock style panels installed without glue and are 8.2mm (0.33") thick.
Can I use the oak floor as the sub-floor making sure it's flat? What other problems am I going to run into? I'm used to Pergo which is thicker and needs glue and hammering to install. This Lamton sounds to good to be true.

The original floor will have a lot more movement with humidity than a plywood underlayment. Talk to the manufacturer of the material, but they will probably 'suggest' that a layer of plywood be used over the old floor.
