I have a '92 Emerson VT1921 TV/VCR Combo. When I turn it on, the screen is completely black (not even an indication of the channel) and there is a high pitched buzz. The Tv doesn't respond to the VCR. Does this problem suggest a specific replaceable part? Thanks!

It looks like problem with your power supply circuit. First Check fuse, then check if you have all the DC voltages to feed different part of your circuits. Which one has it, which one don't. Pay attention to your rectifier diodes, electrolytic caps and regulator transistor and ICs. There are likely the cause of the problem. If you have no raster (blank screen) your HV circuit also can be a problem.

If you notice any white flash on the screen during turning on/off the set, you have HV, but something else make the screen dark. If no flash when you turn on and off, most likely your don't have HV for the picture tube. You can also hear the electrostatic sound during on/off if you have HV.
