may be a trivial question, but my wife and I do not agree.

We live in Illinois and want to know the average temperature to keep the thermostat at in winter months

Wherever the wife wants it, otherwise the bedroom will be too cold.

Never go by what the thermostat says, set it to what feels comfortable to you both, nevermind what it reads. If you want to keep the thermostat to a lower setting, and feel comfortable , get a humidifier, get the place up to 40% and you'll feel warmer because you will be heating the moisture and it will be a warmth conductor, Its also good for the furniture( prevents cracking due to glue joints moving and drying out.) as she gets older and this will get worse. If she's thin that's even worse. Heavy drapes closed help too. I keep mine at 68F but occasionally 70 if I'm idle.:)
