Hi...this is a first time post for me...please help...

I would like to build a simple manual dumb waiter. My goal is to move food/dishes from an upper level deck to a lower level deck. Please advise on how to construct one. Thank you.

Probably didn't get any replies in 5 years, so you may have to google dumb waiter in order to find plans, etc. My wife's came with the marriage license, so no cost involved.

I wanted to build a laundry chute from the second floor to the first by cutting a hole between the first floor ceiling joists in a second floor closet.

The second floor acts as a firebreak so you need to find a thermally operated metal door that restores this firebreak function (of course, I don't have the link anymore). UL or NFPA (the NEC authors) might be able to help you with this.
