Hi, I am at a loss at what to do. I have two phone lines in my house a reg and a dedicated puter line. My wife no longer wants the puter line and to get rid of it the phone company said that I could do it myself or pay them like 75 dollars. I would rather do it! How do you change a phone number at an assigned jack? Thanks for all the help!

Look in your computer phone jack (four wires), and switch the two color-coded wires that are connected with the other set that is not connected. It should be clearly marked where to connect them. Leave the first set disconnected, and not in contact with a terminal screw (just snip off bare wire and wrap around). That will switch that jack back to regular. Don't worry about getting "shocked". They're way too low voltage.
You'll see how to do it. Easy. Good Luck!

hello dirty_james,
what old guy is tellin u is to switch the wires that r on the green and red terminals of the jack with the wires that r on the yellow and black terminals of the jack.
now i will also tell u that this jack may be wired directly to the phone companys interfase on the house , and simply switching wires will not correct. if u switch the wires in the jack and still have nothing then u will have to switch wireing the the interfase box. locate the interfase box it is normaly located verry close to where the phone lines inter the building. open it up, u will c 2 boxes with a plug in that looks like a phone jack plug determin which is normal line by disconecting 1 of the plugs if u still have a dial tone on the phone the 1 u unpluged is the puter line. simply remove the wires from the terminals of this jack and place thim on the other.
here r several links to phone wireing pages if u have any ? they may help.http://www.ablecomm.com/colorcodes.htm
