I have two fluorescent light fixtures in my kitchen. Both were put in back in the mid 80's.(separate switches) They are not always turning on like they are suppose to. Sometimes you have to turn the switch on and off a few times and then they will light up. Thinking it was the switches, I replaced them to no avail. I have narrowed it down to either the balast or the starter. Any comments would be appreciated.

hello erica,
my best gess is the starters, they r cheap and do go out frequently. if the startes dont fix thre problem id check for loose connections. uif all else fails then its probily the balasts, id compare the cost of replaceing the intere fixture agnest the cost of ballasts, somne times its cheaper to replace the fixture then a balast.
