I would like to install another outside outlet on our home. We currently have one that is on the wall of our home in the front porch. I would like to put one on the otherside of the porch wall (across the porch itself and over the railing wall). The original plan was to basically go downstairs, drill a hole through the wall to the outside, fish the wire through and attach a box to the outside wall. I was going to wire from the inside to the other outlet. However the powers that be would like the box to be recessed. The outside is brick! Am I better off to go with plan A than to try to cut out the brick, or should I just call an electrician to do the whole thing?

hello Flip,
adding a box in brick that is recessed is a tough job, best left to people that have experence with it. im not saying it cant be done cause i have done it several times, but i allways advise the people that its cheaper and faster to simply put on a weather proof box and cover, and they dont look that bad eather, some times the exposed will look better then the recesed, depending on the type of brick and mortor.
to install a box recessed u must remove bricks install a box and then cut and fit the removed bricks back in around the box with mortor, no easy task i will assure u.
let me know which way u decide to go and ill tell u step by step how to do it.

Thanks, I thought the recessed thing would be more trouble than it's worth.
I will definetly go with the weather proof box and cover idea.
I have an outside faucet in the same area so I know by the plumbing in the basement where I need to drill the hole into the foundation. (Any regs about how far from a faucet this thing needs to be?)
Because the basement isn't finished I also have access to the wiring for the other outlet. The first outlet is connected to a switch in the house.
I had figured that I would tie the new outlet to the existing outlet so they would both work off the switch. Sound okay?
Thanks for your help.

hello flip,
sounds like u r on the right track. i would locate the outlet at least 12" away from the fasuet. be sure u install a gfci outlet in the box.
