Someone mentioned that it would be smart to look up the local code before starting remodling. Where does one obtain such codes? Book store or are they freebies from the local government?

You can get the answers to your code questions at your local Bldg. Dept. They will give you copies and fliers of pertainent information, usually free, or at a nominal cost. They MAY even order the books for you, if you REALLY want them. However, sit down before you ask "how much?"

That must be the NEC!? I always use a slightly outdated one and get it for nothing.

Us carpenters have about 4 or 5 different national code books and then the local codes too.

I have an "in" at the bldg. dept. and get their outdated ones for nothing. She also keeps me informed about what has changed in the latest versions. <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by sprky:

I use the big thick code book. About $125.00
The first 300 pages are codes, and the last 50 pages are toilet paper.
