View Full Version : Best way to wire?

I wired my basement yesterday and added two sets of outlets, two ceiling lights, and two single pole switches (one for each light). I used up 150 feet of 12/2 wire, which seemed excessive. I am sure the pros would have a better way of doing this. Here is how I did it:

1. Ran a new cable off the panel (on the north wall)and ran it to the middle of east wall. Installed outlet box there.

2. From the outlet box, ran a long wire cross the length of the basement to the west wall. Installed another outlet box.

3. Ran another wire from the second outlet box to the ceiling between the west wall and the stairs (stairs are located in the middle of the basement). Ran another wire to the stairs for the switch to control this first light.

4. Ran the wire from the first light to the opposite side of the room to connect the second light. Then ran the wire for a second swtich which would also be located near the stairs.

How would a professional do this without all the 150 feet of wiring?

Thanks!!!
