I'm doing some remodeling. In one wall I have a 110v. outlet box I would like to move 3 ft. to make it more accessible. But there is not enough wire and a long run of 60 ft. through my attic crawl space must be replaced to get the added distance. Is it legal to just make a termination in a junction box inside the wall (where the original outlet bocx was) to extend the length of the cable? I could make the junction box accessible from the room but would prefer just drywalling over it.

hello Richard,
simply put NO YOU CAN"T DO THIS. the code mandates that all junction boxes be axcessabel with out removeing any part of the structure. u stated that the circuit ran threw the attic and crawl space you could legaly install a junction box in eather 1 of these locations and extend your run. heres what i would do, drill a hole threw the floor into the crawl space in the next stud space over and drop the existing wire threw this hole install a j box and run the few feet to new location.

Just what I was about to tell you, but Sprky is the pro here, and he always says it better. Good Luck!
