I'm building steps for a porch, & I need to know how to figure the measurements for my treads & for my risers. The porch is 49" tall, & I'm not sure what a normal sized step is. I don't want them too steep, or too small. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!;)

For the short height you need it would be quicker to buy precut stair stringers. You'll get the proper riser/step ratio and it will be a much easier job.

Like Fewalt says, buy the precut stringers. Only cut they leave you to do is at the bottom, and everything comes out perfect. About an hour, and each set of steps is done.

The alternative is to buy pressure treated 2X12's, a couple of framing squares, figure out that the treads are 11", the rise is 7" to 7 1/2", draw it all out, then cut it all out. One set before lunch, a second set after lunch.
