in running underground wire to a yard light and two lengths of wire are required, is there a good way to make a waterproof splice?

I am not an electrician, and I do not know what the code is regarding this, but I can tell you how we've done it in my neighborhood for years. I'm fairly certain that this is very probably not up to any code on this planet (lol), but it works. Twist the ends of the wire together very tightly, put on appropriate size wire nuts, wrap everything very heavily in electrical tape. Split an aluminum drink can or plastic bottle almost in half with utility knife. Lay/center splice in it, fill with silicone caulk completely encasing the splice, tape split bottle halves back together, bury it and forget it. Lasts indefinitely. Have never known one to fail. Good Luck!

hello hello Yurout,
old guys correct his way of underground spliceing is defenetly not to code, might work since its simuler to an underground splice kit, but i dont recomend it.
you have several choices here.
1. get underground splice kit and splice wires together
2. install a junction box sutiabel for derict burial and splice the wires in the box
3. run new wire
