I want to replace the door locks on my new house, but I just discovered that my front door may be problem. Its 3 by 8 and 2 inches thick. I purchased a standard lock set from Home Depot, but the set mechanisms were too short for my door width. The folks at Home Depot couldn't provide me with any help, except purchasing a smaller door. I like my almost 80 + year old door, and i want to keep it.
Is there somewhere I can purchase a lock set for a 2 inche wide door? Or do i need to buy a set and have a locksmith retro-fit the lock?
Thank you,
LoTo

Check with your local locksmith or builders hardware store. There are locks made that will fit a thicker door, although not available in the regular retail outlets. They are usually more expensive also but worth it to preserve a nice door.
