I've got a problem situation and could use some advice. My existing subfloor is a t&g OSB, 3/4" with a sturd-i-floor rating for 24" oc. It is over 16" oc 2" x 12" spanning 16'. The floor used to be covered with 1/4" luan and vinyl tiles. The luan was stapled and screwed, so the OSB isn't perfectly smooth now. It was also painted. Because of floor height problems, I was thinking of using Ditra. Can I simply sand the surface of the OSB, or should I do something else before applying the Ditra? Thanks for any help.

The painted surface is the big problem here not the fact that the floor isn't perfectly smooth. Yes...you should sand the paint off as much as possible before adding the DITRA. Use a coarse sandpaper.
