Hello everyone,
We had all new double hung Alside Ultramax windows put in our 2 story home about a month ago. There is now a whistling sound even in very little wind outside, the problem seems to be only in a couple windows. One is upstairs the other down stairs.
I have written on here before about this and was told it is an installing problem and the installer should be able to fix it. I called the installer which had come very highly recommended by all 15 people I called ahead of time, he had given me a larger list of people.
My question is, after telling him about this noise, he seemed to not understand on the phone what I meant. He is due to come out this coming Tuesday and is bringing a rep. from the manufacturer to look at the windows with the noise. I'm wondering how exactly the windows should have been installed. We had aluminum windows removed and have a vinyl sided house. I watched them install them so I know what was done, but not sure if it was done right. Can someone tell me, thats familiar with this process? Thanks so much again for your help. I want to be able to know what hes talking about when he comes and be able to mention anything to the manufacturing rep. about installing, if that wasn't done right. I'm scared the installer is going to blame the manufacturer and the manufacturer is going to blame the house or something. Our old windows didn't whistle. Thanks Debbie

I don't think the installer and the factory rep. will spend much time trying to pass the buck. I think they will fix your windows.
Most likely cause of the whistling is the welded joints on the sashes. The whistling can probably be stopped by cutting or grinding the ridge of the vinyl weld off just a little. If it was left just a little too tall at the factory, it will prevent the weatherstripping from sealing properly.
