I am building a yard shed and found a solid wood door which I hope can be cut down to fit the shed. The opening is 6 ft. tall and about 38 inches wide. The door is a full size house door (36 in. wide). My question is, can the door be cut off with no problem. Is the core of the door actually solid wood or just some type of filler? Would I run into any problem when I cut the door off.? Thanks for any info anyone can offer.

Generally solid core wood slab doors are filled with EITHER particle board OR a series of wood sticks about the size of a 2X2.This fill is then surrounded by the wood that you see on the top, bottom, and the two edges, then the inside and outside skins are glued on. If you cut 8" off of the bottom of the door, you will need to reseal the bottom to prevent moisture from being drawn into the filler, which will cause the door to fall apart in a matter of time.
The "best" way to seal it would be to route out 1-1/2" of the filler once you cut the door off and glue a piece of 2X2, planed the the proper thickness, inside that cavity. Then paint it with a coat of good exterior paint once the glue has dried.
