I am currently in the market for a new HVAC unit. I currently have a 28 year old Gas Furnace and AC units. I have got some quotes on 90+ Furnaces and 12 SEER AC units. My question is, should I stick with Natural Gas or change to a 12 or 14+ SEER Heat Pump? My concern is the fact that Natural Gas prices are continuously rising and I've read that the world supply is getting very low. Does anyone know of any projections of future energy costs, Gas verses Electric?

should be able to give you a cost report based on "degree days", and climate statistics. of course this would be based on current pricing. how about a dual fuel setup with heat pump primary and gas backup?

If you go with the heat pump and gas back up you have everything covered. Have you looked at the cost of gas as to the electric there? As far as the SEER goes try for a 14 for now ,how ever you go.;) ED

I like gas appliances, but not NG.
I prefer propane. I get to decide when I buy it, who I buy it from and how much I buy.
BTW, there is no "real" shortage of gas, they burn this stuff by the millions of cubic feet on oil rigs (see an oil rig with the fire coming out a stack, that's natural gas being burned off).
