I want to enclose my furnace to eliminate most of the furnace noise. I already have one wall up. I am looking for guidance as to the size the other wall show be. What should be the distance away from the furnace?

What other information should I be aware of? Any special drywall needed for fireproofing?

you will need 30 inch clearance to the front for servicing, see label on furnace for clearance to combustible info. i recommend at least 6 inches. this way you can reach around it to get to the screw if replacing the unit. also take int account amount of combustion air needed, what size (btu) is it?

Anouther thing to think of here.Your furnace needs air to work RIGHT if you build this room tight it will knot give air to combust.I say you will have to supply air to the burner from out side the room like 6 inch flex pipe or outher.I also am builing a room to kill noise and inprove the look of my basement.i have all the stud work done and build a door for easy acess.I plan to dry wall after winter and install a air supply kit to give it the air it needs.i plan on a 6 inch piping from the outside to the burner.

As yet we have not heard back with any details on your equipment or house.

Some are assuming your furnace is gas, but you've not said for sure.

More info please if you still need help.

Thank You for the replies...
I have a Utica boiler. I do not have all the details for it. Sorry.
I think the other responses have given me what I was looking for.

After reviewing my plan with my boss (the wife), she doesn't want me to build the wall completely across as I was planning, so I will not have it completely built in and there will be plenty of area.

I am interest the air supply I need to build if I do build the wall completely across.

I went to home depot and they said to install louver doors. That doesn't help reduce the noise, but it will provided the needed air.
