Hi,
I bought my home a little over 3 years ago. This spring I had an A/C professional visit to give my A/C heat pump unit the once over. It’s a Tempstar. My A/C guy showed me my heat pump unit has a water-heating unit that is not working and to replace the motor would be about $400.00. I wonder why the home inspector did not catch this? Anyway I thought I would replace the electric motor myself and save a few bucks. My problem is I’m having trouble finding information about this water-heating unit.
Do you know where I could find information on the who, what’s and where of a device like this?
Thanks

I personally don't have experience with what you describe and hopefully someone will be along that can answer your question.
If you do decide to replace it yourself, be sure you get enough information to be able to follow through with the set-up and operation of it.
I assume that was an installed price he quoted you, and if you have to call someone after, you will defeat the purpose of having fixed it yourself.

http://www.fhp-mfg.com/res_products/hrp/hrp.htm This is a manufacturer of heat pumps with heat recovery option you are referring to. This page also show a picture of the unit, it may be the one you have. If not I am almost certain they know the type of pump you need and they may have one.

If you have a heat pump that this water heater is on I would say dont run it in the winter time at all . It takes away heat you need for your home. But come the summer use it.Not only will it give you free hot water but it will also kick up the SEER on your AC unit.Dont know how it is set up to your hot water heater but we only put them on units that are AC only.Had one here in my home
turned the hot water heater off and had all the hot water for 3 people at 140o the whole time the ac was on.I have also found a lot of them are not put in the right way to the water heater. If you cant find the right pump any small water pump will work for you;) ED
