Two IDE devices can be attached to each IDE interface. So you can have 4 hard drives and no cdrom, 2 hd's and 2 cdroms, 1 HD, 1 orb drive, 1 cdrom and 1 cd-rw, etc....
When hooking 2 devices on one IDE channel(interface) one "must" be a slave and one "must" be a master. You can do this with the jumpers on the back of the drive or you can see if cable select will work for you. If you have the ATA100 color coded cables they must be connected correctly (instruction come with them, forget the colors).
Adding a hard drive will not effect the data on the current HD. If the current drive is partitioned you will have to reinstall most software since the new HD will cause the drive mapping to change.
I.E. HD1 partition 1= drive C, partion 2 = drive E
HD2 partition 1= drive D, partion 2 = drive F
The first partion of any drive is always assigned the next drive letter, then will look for 2nd and 3rd partitions.
G'luck

Depending upon the age of the computer, it may not support more than 2 IDE devices. Check the specifications for the motherboard before buying the extra hard drive.

what info are you trying to save? a program to use for burning cd's? there are lots of freeware/shareware out there that you can download.
