Hello all. I have an old Burnham Holiday boiler that has developed a problem. Recently, water has started dripping from the zone control valve. The water leaking has become such a problem that I've had to put a pail underneath to catch the drips. What might the problem be? As you know, the zone control contains a solenoid that opens and closes allowing the hot water to flow through the pipes to the selected area that you want... Do I have to replace this entire unit or is there a bad seal or gasket on it somewhere perhaps? Any help would be appreciated. I am calling a heating/cooling contractor on Monday to see what he says. Many thanks in advance.

Replace the zone valve...It'll be the easiest way out.

I concur replacing the valve is the best option. The mechanics of the repair will depend on what type valve you have. On some, the head can be unbolted from the valve body and replaced while, on others, the entire valve body will have to be changed out. Relieving the pressure and possibly draining down the system will be involved. If the whole thing has to be changed, insist that the new one has a replaceable head or that the valve has a union on each side.
