I am thinking of buying a 1920's farmhouse in WI And am wondering if I can increase R-value of walls by adding foam insulation to inside of walls. I would rather not tear off siding and will be insulating between studs. Anything else I can do like rigid foam on interior.

Go to www.doityourself.com/insulate to learn about insulation and to calculate the R-value for your ZIP.

Greetings,
You can attach 2x2 over the stud line and install 2 layers of radiant barrier (RB) insulation. This will give you maximum insulation value and is also a excellent vapor barrier. I have used this method on old homes and the results are very good.
