Can anyone provide a decent process for trimming approx. 1/4" from bottom of 6 panel doors and not having them look bad. I own a circular saw and horses.......any easy way to do this????

Also, I need to have a 4 panel closet door ripped about 1/8"? Will a lumber yard do this??? Thanks...

Need circular saw, sawhorses, straightedge, and some 'C' clamps. Mark the cut line, align the straight edge so that the offset to the cut line is the same as the distance from the edge of the sole of the saw to the closer side of the blade of the saw. This should allow you to cut exactly where you desire. The straight edge will make the cut as smooth as possible as well as straight as possible.

A lumber yard or one of the home depot styled places may be able to trim 1/8" off the door. These places usually have a panel saw to make the job simpler.

Take a utility knife and score the cut line. That will keep the door from splintering along the cut. Also try to put some tape of some kind on the bottom of the saw to keep the saw from marring the wood.

also put some masking tape on the door bottom itself to help prevent splintering of the wood. Use a good, sharp, multi-tipped blade made for cross cuts.

On the door you need an 1/8 off the side, find someone with a woodworking shop with a jointer, or buy yourself a decent hand plane with about a 12" or longer base.

This will probably be to late, but here goes. The chip out occurs on the side of the door that the circular saw blade exits.
Put the show side down so the blade goes in. Put a piece of 1/2 inch plywood on the top side and clamp it down with the same clamps holding the straight edge. Cut against the straight edge and through the door and plywood at the same time.

Door is complete and looks like a pro did it...thanks for all the great advice. The only thing left is ripping the other door that I spoke of. I purchased a "rip fence" at the depot, which is basically a strait edge that attaches to the saw with screws and hugs the opposite edge of the door. It is made by porter cable. Anyone ever used one of these...I think it should work, since the blade did such a good job on the trim...ripping will just be a longer cut...? Any info????
