We recently moved and have found that the dryer we have is not compatible with the gas heating system in the new place. Could you help me decide which steps I need to take to connect. Thank you!

Hello Amy and Welcome to our Do It Yourself Web Site and my Gas Appliances forum.

I am not exactly sure I know what you mean by not compatible. If you mean the type of fuel the dryer is currently setup to use, propane or natural, a fuel conversion will be required.

If this is the case, the conversion method varies depending upon the age of the dryer. Newer appliances are easiest while older machines may require slightly more work.

If compatibility means the actual connection to the gas supply, depending upon the type of fuel used, the existing supply piping, if there is a shut off valve currently there, the size and type of shut off valve and the existing parts already on your machine, etc determines how to accomplish the connection.

Dryer connections are not always difficult to accomplish. The best and usually adviseable method is to replace all existing hardware.
The required parts are available at all non chain hardware stores.

I suggest avoiding large chain hardware stores only because you may need some advice based on local requirements. Privately owned hardware stores most often have the advice required.
