I just installed a full glass storm door. It is beautiful. The door handle of the SD is hitting the dead bolt casing of the metal door. I guess the two doors are too close. This is preventing the storm door from closing. What is the best solution? Should I replace the Dead bolt with a lower profile key set or should I replace the door handle with a lower profile version? Should I remove the new storm door and build up the door jam? Help!!
I looked at past posts and couldn't find this problem. Am I the only one?

If the dead bolt is separate from the handset on the entry door, it seems that it would be cheaper to replace it.

I installed one once that this happened when I used the template directions included with the door....I was able to redrill the holes in the storm door for the handle and move it down just enough to clear the door knob but still cover with the handle set.
If your holes in the storm would show, you could also buy a pc of thin brass flat stock at most building supply places and make a "trim" plate on the inside and outside of the door, covering the old holes and allowing you to move the handel set. That's another cheap solution.

The hardware needs to be installed above or below the handle it's hitting. Sounds like you installed a pre-hung door if the hardware came attached or was pre-drilled. Contact the company you bought the door from and see what they can do for you.

Thanks Guys. I added a piece of trim around the door frame and re attached the storm door. It looks fine and the handle no longer hits the dead bolt assembly.

whoever installed the door mounted it flush w/ exterior wall. when it should have been installed flush w/ you interior wall.remove storm door and re-install over doubled up exterior trim.
in other words pack out your exterior trim to meet the space needs of your entry door.
