I have a gap of about 3/4 inch between the vinyl flooring and the base of the bathtub. ...a bit too broad to apply caulking.
Any hints would be appreciated as to what I could used to fill the gap.
Can narrow ceramic edge tiles be used. If the edge pieces were butted up against the bases of the tub (when it meets the floor) and then overlapped the vinyl flooring? Then both edges of the tile caulked?
Thanks

Atrypa,
Maybe the best solution would be to install a metal flooring strip - your choice of brass or silver. Apply silicone caulking underneath this to provide a water tight seal between tub and vinyl, then apply the strip - it can be cut to fit, 1 pc. Home Depot or your local flooring store can provide this, sometimes they call it a seam binder. This would be cheap in cost, about $10 and look good. IT also would keep the vinyl flooring from curling should any water get under it. Your proposal may look bad when done and it would take some work.
Hope this helps!

There is 3/4"- 1/4 round ceramic tile pieces available. They are 6" long each. Secure with latex modified thinset and caulk both edges It is called either A104 or A106 and I can't remember which--One is concave and one is convex.. I think it is A106.
Also available is a "caulk tape" available in 1/2," 3/4" peel and stick. Usually used where wall tile and tub meet.

Atrypa,
Since you have vinyl flooring the suggestion on using tile may not be pleasing to the eye and your will still have some concerns about the flooring curling if the 3/4" tile pcs are not large enough to cover the vinyl. Think about this before application.
If you do the tile with the pcs. WJS_SR51 has mentioned DO NOT USE CAULK TAPE , this is acrylic latex and is not recommended. Use 100% silicone, mildew resisteant and easy to clean with household products.
Good Luck!

Hi, If the gap isn't too big use a piece of quarter round. fast, cheap, and looks good. Set in a bed of caulk nail and paint to suit.Good Luck Woodbutcher

Just out of curiosity ???? How did there come to be such a large gap between the tub and the vinyl ?????????????????
Did you replace the tub ? Did the vinyl shrink? How about replacing the vinyl or installing a ceramic tile floor.
The caulk tape I mentioned earlier is a plastic or vinyl piece that is usually sold in 11 foot rolls with a self adhesive back. It is usually used between wall tile and tub. It forms an L shape. It's not the greatest stuff but is covers gaps. You could use some ceramic 2x6 flat cap (S4269) that would cover 2 inches of the vinyl but I think that might look tacky.

Bill,
I want to let you know that I misunderstood what you were suggesting. When you said caulk tape some think rope caulks...I did. I attached a link for Atrypa to look at. I am assuming that this is the product similar to what you are meaning. Butyl is great stuff but your idea for this gap would work as long as we can cover the vinyl flooring to keep it from possible curling. I, too, was wondering about the reason for the gap but that's not always the right question to ask...some get offended if we ask "incriminating questions". I didnotice that this tuff does come in wider strips which may do well. Take a look, what do you think?

Yes this looks like the product I was refering to.
I'm not sure if this is the same brand they sell where I work but I can check tomorrow.
I think that answering these questions would be easier with a little more up-front information.
Sometimesit is like pulling teeth.

Bill,
Thanks...by the way an you go over to Decorate and under ceramic talk to Jeff24404@aol on Marble tile...I think you might be able to help him out...my experience with marble tile is limited.
He had asked the questions in the Bath but I sent him over there, you just might be the answer guy to help.
You're right, sometimes getting more info in the beginning would be helpful but I have learned to go with the flow...sometimes many questions just to give a simple answer.
Thanks for the feedback!
