We are remodeling a small (main) bathroom, 4'5"W by 9'4"L requiring complete rehab. Present cast iron tub is apparently a 54" Pink Tub with plastic 4" tiles on walls. We are inclined to replace tiny tub with a nice 36" X 36" Acrylic corner shower kit, rather than trying to find/install another small cramped tub. We are concerned that may hurt appeal or value in the home when we plan to sell in 4-6 years.

Many people prefer showers only (me), and some prefer a bath only (my wife), and as long as you can do either in the home, you should be o.k.
If this is the only bathroom, I think that I would replace that 54" tub, however. You can find them through plumbing fixture supply houses.
Good Luck!

grayjay,
Most major brands have the 54" available and I agree with Old Guy, the ability to take bath or shower is critical when it is the main bathroom. Denying yourself the options or to a potential buyer, would definitely be a problem in selling to most buyers.
Good Luck!
