Hi,
The recently bought old house has crack in the floor joist (5mm wide, 20cm long, at the joist bottom, along the grain, appproximately 1/5 of it's height, 1/5 of the joist lenght, counting from the wall). No visible sagging or sounds when people are walking at opposite side, cracked area located under the bed.
Flooring is hardwood, old and squeaky.
How can I fix it? Glue, metal braces/brackets, wood sandwich or anything else?
And unrelated joist question: is it against the code to drill the hole in the joint (from bottom up 2", to screw into it a holder for a boxing sac/bag (probably wrong term))?
Thanks,
Brett0987
