I have gutted an old bathroom and am now ready to re-assemble the new bathroom. I have discussed my project with three contractors; all with different answers to my questions:

1. 2 out of the 3 contractors told me that the new subflooring needs to installed with a 1/4" space from the walls. The other contractor indicated that it didn't matter. What is your opinion?

2. All of the contractors told me that I should not install insulation and greenboard behind the new shower uprights. What is your opinion? I want to soundproof the room as much as possible.

3. 1 of the contractors told me that the new shower base should be installed directly to the old subfloor. The other two told me to install it on top of the new subfloor. Which is correct?

Thanks.

I don't believe the 1/4 distance will make any difference. I've never seen done at least.
Generally you put a cement backer board behing the shower walls (if you put tiles on the wall). If you're using a plastic unit (one pcs or similar) then some of them don't require any backing, and for the rest green drywall will work too. But green drywall is "resistant" to moisture, cement is pretty much impervious to moisture.
I put put the base on the new subfloor.
